Online communities are changing the way people enjoy leisure activities through computer-mediated interactions. Meetie is an app that helps connect people here and now. The app allows you to create instant activity for people around you or join people in your city/neighborhood.
I was a freelance designer on this project.
Meetie’s goal is to help people meet self-fulfillment and psychological needs:
Based on online communities life cycle research by Iriberri and Leroy, as well as a test I did for creating an activity between five people, I created the following map to identify pain points.
Not being able to articulate ideas might discourage people from creating a new activity.
Negative impact on users if they got rejected and if they rejected others.
A lot of coordination and planning is required to organize an activity, which left the event creator stressed throughout the process.
Creators have 30 seconds to respond to a member requesting to join. If they cancel three people in a row, we ask them if they want to stop receiving requests.
Creator decides based on personal message, bio, and picture.
When you open a Meetie, you will be able to view members and check the detailed event description.
Once you join, you will be able to share what you can contribute to the event to help share responsibilities with the creator and minimize “freeloaders.”
Once you submit, a 30-second counter will start. If you are approved, you will see your photo next to the creator’s photo.
If you abandon the flow or close the Meetie, you can still see your progress by two indicators:
Conflicts might start during this step. To reduce conflicts, I included the following features:
In Meetie, you can block and report an event with the option to block the creator as well.
Or, you can block a specific member in a Meetie
For this project, I have created a style guide and UI kit for Figma.
